Over the past few years, the fields of medicine and cosmetic surgery have continued to move towards each other. So much, that this is impacting on our clinical treatments: as surgeons, whenever possible, we are now able to offer less invasive procedures with equally successful results.

This is possible because we are able to use the latest dermal fillers with amazing results. These days, we are increasingly using fillers based on PolyCaproLactone (PCL) which have outstanding safety records, provide
a high viscosity and elasticity and, furthermore, boast an impressive longevity due to their ability to enable the production of fresh collagen.

These bio-stimulating dermal fillers use the body’s natural response to foreign bodies and stimulate the formation of collagen around the microspheres, making a longer-lasting implant. Ultimately, this treatment offers a versatile, non-surgical approach to increase soft tissue and contouring, and presents a variety of potential cosmetic uses.

The aim is not only to provide a smoother skin surface but also to restore the face’s individual features, providing a balance of the filler’s lifting effect on the face’s curved and hollowed areas.

The use of PCL dermal filler is also far more widespread in treatments designed to restore and rejuvenate the face. Most commonly, it is used by plastic surgeons to complement an existing surgical procedure.

ELLANSÉ® is made up of an aqueous carboxymethylcellulose, with synthetic PolyCaproLactone microspheres. It is used at a fixed concentration – with different polymer chain lengths providing variable levels of longevity and durability.

The PCL microspheres are completely smooth and round, and are therefore the perfect shape for use in dermal fillers. The treatment is carried out in an outpatient environment, using ELLANSÉ® in a variety of ways depending on the specific imperfection we are looking to restore, and included different injection techniques e.g. linear tread, fanning technique, cross-hatching with local anaesthetic and ELLANSÉ® dermal filler.

This procedure is simple and safe. It does not have a disruptive effect on the patient’s everyday life including their social or professional activities, and the results are highly satisfying, even with a single application. Furthermore, the treatment can be repeated if required.
