From 27 to 29 August 2026, Prof. Luca Piovano was among the faculty of IMCAS China, the fifth Chinese edition of the international congress of aesthetic medicine, dermatology and plastic surgery, held at the W Shanghai — The Bund.
Five editions, a global audience
IMCAS China 2026 brought more than 2,000 attendees and over 300 faculty members from 49 countries to Shanghai, with more than 130 hours of scientific content spread across three days and several parallel rooms. Every scientific session ran with simultaneous translation into English, Chinese and Russian.
The programme covered the themes currently reshaping the field: regenerative medicine, skin quality, longevity science, laser and energy-based devices, artificial intelligence in diagnostics, medical body shaping and cadaver anatomy workshops. Prof. Piovano was one of six Italian speakers on the faculty.
Twenty seconds in Mandarin
The lecture itself was delivered in English, as were all the talks given by the international faculty. The first twenty seconds were not: Prof. Piovano opened by greeting the audience in Mandarin, introducing himself and thanking the organisers in the language of the host country, before switching to English for the scientific content.
The subject brought to Shanghai
The talk traced the evolution of carboxytherapy: from the straightforward infiltration of carbon dioxide to today’s equipment, which can deliver two gases within the same session and regulate the flow down to very low rates, with a direct effect on how comfortable the session is for the patient.
